“USING TREES” “CULTIVATING FORESTS”
In recent years, due to climate change and global warming, natural disasters such as heavy rains and hurricanes occur quite frequently. Badly managed forests and neglected artificial forests are some of the reasons that we have increases in disasters such as landslides, river floods in residential areas and inland waters, and the rapid rising of water level in rivers.
These projects of ours intend not only to cope with such problems by making the best use of natural resources to reduce the risks of natural hazards and at the same time to conserve the forests,but also let people aware of these problems.
Using Trees
Wood Guardrails－木景KOKAGE
Wood guardrails, named KOKAGE were first made here in Western Japan and will be introduced at the Expo 2025 Osaka. Their octagon-shaped beams do not only create an extremely beautiful scene, but also contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions because of their nature-friendly characteristics.
Cultivating forests
Growing Taproot Seedlings
Focusing on the strong roots of broadleaf trees, we are growing taproot seedlings which have the characteristics of inserting their strong roots deep in the earth. These seedlings excel in strengthening the slopes and have a great effect on the prevention of landslide disasters. The formation of strong forests to prevent disasters does not only promise the safety of residential areas, but also contributes to the sustainable conservation of the environments.
By using trees and cultivating forests like this, we expect to reduce CO2, protect watershed, prevent landslides of the forests, and implement Eco-DRR (ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction).
We are creating a new legacy here in WAKAYAMA, a land rich in trees.
